SwiftKey Clipboard and Typing Settings Explained
Key takeaways
  • Open the SwiftKey Clipboard from the Toolbar by tapping the Clipboard icon.
  • Pinning a clip stops it from expiring after 1 hour, according to Microsoft.
  • You can assign a shortcut to a clip and insert it from the prediction bar.
  • Typing settings include spacebar behavior (Quick prediction insert or Autocorrect) and Flow gesture typing.

Typing the same address or phrase again and again is a waste of time. SwiftKey's clipboard lets you keep useful text ready. This guide also covers key typing settings. Setup is in our SwiftKey guide.

Sources and accuracy

Based on Microsoft's SwiftKey help pages on the Clipboard and setup (October 2026). The clipboard page did not describe sync, privacy or turning the clipboard off, so we do not claim anything about them. Menu names may differ by version.

Use the Clipboard

  1. Highlight text in any text field and tap Copy.
  2. Open the SwiftKey Toolbar, then tap the Clipboard icon to see your clips.
  3. Tap a clip to insert it.

Microsoft also says you can copy images to the clipboard and pin them.

Add a clip manually

Open the Toolbar, tap Clipboard, then the Settings icon, tap +, type your text in "Clip content" and tap Save.

Pin, delete and reorder

  • Tap the pin icon beside a clip to keep it at the top. Microsoft says pinning stops copied clips expiring after 1 hour.
  • Swipe left or right to delete a clip. Tap Undo immediately to reverse.
  • Long-press and drag a clip to reorder.

Clip shortcuts

In Clipboard settings, tap a clip and type text in the shortcut field (for example "Home1") and Save. Later, type the shortcut and tap it on the prediction bar to insert the clip.

Do not store passwords, card numbers or other secrets as clips. Anyone who uses your unlocked phone could see them.

Typing settings

From the setup page:

  • Typing: choose what the spacebar does: Quick prediction insert or Autocorrect.
  • Gesture input: try Flow, glide-to-type.
  • Rich input: choose whether the voice key shows.
  • Layout & keys: number row, arrow row, extra accents, keyboard size and long-press duration.
  • Sound & vibration: turn sounds and vibration on or off.

Microsoft also has a page on how the spacebar works with autocorrect and one on the prediction bar. If you do not like predictions, see its page on turning the prediction bar off.

Troubleshooting

Clip is gone. Unpinned clips expire after one hour. Pin the ones you need.

Autocorrect annoys me. Change the spacebar behavior to Quick prediction insert.

Predictions disappeared. Check Microsoft's article for this problem.
